Hours

Full time: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week.

Location

This is a hybrid role, with your time spread between your home and our Head Office in Hillington, Glasgow. 

About the role

Our Master Data Management team are responsible for creating an accurate, consistent, and available record of key business information – mastered data.

As a Data Engineer, you will work collaboratively with other data engineers, data analysts, software engineers and product managers as we leverage data to meet business goals.

You will have expert SQL knowledge, be well-versed in data wrangling and have experience with data pipelines – ingesting, validating, cleansing, modelling, and storing data from multiple sources. You will also have an appreciation of a modern DataOps mindset, including resiliency, scalability and automation.

As we expand our capabilities and leverage AI technologies, having an insight into data science or machine learning techniques would be beneficial.

You will be enthusiastic about technology, able to adapt quickly to help us solve interesting problems, beyond any single framework or approach.

Skills and Day- day activities:

  • Data engineering: Incorporate data from multiple sources – cleansing, validating and transforming into consistent models. As a Data Engineer, you will contribute to our overall Data Engineer practice, helping shape common data pipelines, processes and practices.
  • Data modelling and design: Ensure data is organised and modelled, providing a consistent and accurate version of key business entities.
  • Database design: Contribute to the design of operational databases to store mastered data, ensuring that data is available in a reliable and scalable manner.
  • Data management: Contribute to how data is stored and managed, in line with agreed data governance requirements, ensuring appropriate metadata is available on data classification and lineage.
  • Data analytics: Assist our Analysis teams in extracting meaningful insights from our data, aiding in business and product decisions.
  • Data science: Incorporate techniques and approaches from mathematics, statistics, and probability modelling to uncover insights, and enrich our mastered data.

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • Expert SQL knowledge, well-versed in data wrangling and working with data at scale
  • Proven record in relational database design and data modelling
  • Solid understanding of data analysis with focus on accuracy and correctness, extracting value and answering domain questions
  • Proficient in building and monitoring data pipelines to move, validate, transform and store data
  • Strong understanding of data security, including securing access to data, and approaches to data encryption

Nice to have but not essential

  • Previous experience within a master data context would be beneficial, but not essential
  • Knowledge of data science or machine learning techniques and approaches
  • Experience working with modern PaaS offerings, Data Lake, and Data Lake House approaches
  • Comfortable working in other programming languages, e.g., Python
