About the role

As our new Communications Executive in Events & Community, you’ll work predominately on events, sponsorships, partnerships and charity initiatives for the Arnold Clark Group.

You will be joining a busy in-house team of eight, who organise everything from black-tie awards dinners to incentive trips, team-building days, apprentice graduations and conferences, to name a few. The team is also responsible for all the company’s community work, including partnerships such as the Kiltwalk and working with all sizes of charities and good causes.

You will play a vital role in making sure all the above are organised to the highest standard and executed seamlessly, and that we maintain our fantastic reputation with charities and external stakeholders.

This role is fun but jam-packed; you’ll need to multi-task and work on many projects at once, keep to tight deadlines and manage expectations. Some overnight travel within the UK will be expected and occasional weekend and evening work.

Day-to-day duties

  • Managing and organising your own portfolio of internal and external events.
  • Taking ownership of events and seeing them through the full cycle – from initial request to on-the-day event management.
  • Creating and maintaining budgets and timelines for events that you work on.
  • Co-ordinating some of Arnold Clark’s sponsorship and partnership activity in relation to external events, community initiatives and our customer rewards programme.
  • Creating accurate post-campaign and event reports that will help with future decision-making.
  • Meeting with and regularly updating internal and external stakeholders of all levels of seniority.
  • Working on flagship initiatives, such as the Arnold Clark Community Fund, and building relationships with charity partners.
  • Taking responsibility for community requests and making sure they’re completed to timescales with maximum PR benefits.
  • Creating accurate post-campaign and event reports that will help with future decision-making.
  • Briefing and working with web and graphic designers to ensure consistency throughout projects and events.
  • Identifying and working with suppliers to negotiate services and ensure smooth delivery.
  • Assisting the Marketing department with event and community related requests.
  • Supporting and assisting other members of your team as and when required.
  • Working with other teams and departments in the business to fulfil common objectives and deliver projects.

Essential skills and experience

  • Minimum of two to three years’ experience working in a fast-paced events environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage a busy and challenging workload.
  • Being commercially aware and adjusting your workload to suit business requirements.
  • Attention to detail to ensure high standards are always met.
  • Confidence working with and meeting new people.
  • Team player that’s happy to support colleagues throughout the business.
  • Creative and happy to present ideas.
  • Ability to adapt and handle changes during any stage of a project.
  • Open to supporting other business requirements as and when needed.
