We are looking for an experienced Cloud Platform Engineer to join our Digital team and to help us provide a seamless digital experience across the Group.

Hours

Hybrid working. 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. 1 hour lunch. 

Location

This role will involve working between Head Office in Hillington and Kilbirnie Street, Glasgow. 

About the role

In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence the technical approach we take to designing, implementing and maintaining our digital products.  

Working in a hybrid environment with cross-functional squads, you’ll help to establish best practice around continuous integration and deployment, while evangelising automation throughout and taking a proactive approach to ensure performance and stability is maintained. 

We are looking for someone with a ‘can do’ attitude to changes in the requirements, the technologies, and the problems we are solving at short notice. We want someone who is pragmatic and can adapt as situations evolve, who also shows an interest in learning new things and new approaches. 

Day-to-day duties

  • Deploy and maintain critical systems, with a particular focus on automation, ease of configuration, reduction of human error, repeatability and security. 
  • Help design and implement automated pipelines in the cloud. 
  • Use monitoring to measure service performance. 
  • Utilise infrastructure-as-code to deliver automated, predictable and scalable solutions, infrastructure and services. 
  • Empower development squads to build and deliver software solutions and services. 
  • Evangelise automated, fault-tolerant and secure developments and practices. 
  • Investigate and manage any anomalies to resolution and assist in wider investigations as required. 
  • Support and work alongside engineering teams on the latest technologies. 
  • On-call rota. 

Essential skills

  • Experience designing and building solutions within Azure 
  • Ability to monitor services, ensuring performance and stability 
  • Ability to deploy a variety of resources in Azure, including IaaS, PaaS, and serverless 
  • Experience with the Hub-Spoke Model 
  • Proficient in cloud orchestration using Terraform and Ansible 
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes 
  • Creation and management of CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps 
  • Strong communication and documentation skills 
  • Strong judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills 

Nice to have but not essential

  • Linux Administration experience
  • Knowledge of networking  
  • Familiarity with HAProxy 
  • Eventstore experience
  • Knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB/Galera 
  • Experience with Redis 
  • vSphere / VMWare knowledge
